The two terms get used interchangeably, but they’re not quite the same thing.
What is a fit-out?
A fit-out usually means taking an empty or unfinished space and turning it into a working environment – partitions, services, flooring, the lot. It’s most common when you’ve taken on a new building or a shell unit. If you’re looking at new premises, our guide to Cat A and Cat B fit-outs is worth a read.
What is a refurbishment?
A refurbishment is about improving a space you already occupy: updating tired decor, reconfiguring the layout, replacing flooring or bringing services up to date, often while you carry on working in the building.
Which one is your project?
If you’re not sure, we can take a look and advise. In practice many jobs are a bit of both, and we’re set up to handle either – see our office interiors services, or read how much an office fit-out costs.
